Purgatory is, in essence, to see the four string insturments not as separate beings, but as parts to a greater whole. The same note on a different instrument is still a different note. Purgatory is a passing intermediate state between death and eternal life. Within this state, I imagine the breath of these souls expanding beyond their own existences. The delicate composition and approach allows the audience to listen and recognise the subtle changes within and being played by each of the four instruments.
