Memory fades over time. Immediately after a moment occurs, the blurring and distortion of the original memory begins to dissolve with past and present experiences. As one repeatedly attempts to re-access a memory, the more one unconsciously reshapes and manipulates it. Eventually the memory is replaced by one’s re-imagined various of the original. Though the fragile essence of the installation remains fairly unchanged, the tangible complexity of the form evolves. With each gentle pull of a string, the knotted nodes within the fabric unravels, irrevocably altering the knot. As the materiality of the piece warps responding to each pull, the resulting form shifts in response to one’s interation with the space. Similarly, memories are never segregated events. In essence, we do not seek to capture one specific memory, but rather allow for the materialized experience of a passing of memory to dissolve within time and space.
